What I meant was the Commomwealth spelt with the capital letter and the definite article. I double-checked it in the dictionary:it refers to the British Commonwealth only

Let me assure you that the history of England is not limited to the period from 1603 - the establishment of the House of Stuart or 1649 - the year of the restoration of this dynasty up till the present House of Windsor.
I did not include the Anglo-Saxon kings or the Danish ones. Neither did I favour the Norman kings. Invaders all of them were! But the well-known Richard Coeur de Lion (The Lionheart) belonged already to the first, rightly English house - the one of Anjou-Plantagenet, then there existed two more Houses which contested power in the notorious War of Roses - The House of York and The House of Lancaster. That is all about auld lang syne.
